Sinema, Kelly Announce Over $12 Million in Workforce Training Grants for Arizona

Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly announced over $12 million in Department of Labor H-1B One Workforce Grants to prepare hardworking Arizonans for the jobs of the future. The Department of Labor awarded Pima County $4,000,000 and the Arizona Board of Regents, on behalf of ASU, $8,029,594 to help train Arizona workers for jobs in cybersecurity, manufacturing, and transportation.

“Today’s investment in skills training and education gets hardworking Arizonans the tools to succeed in good-paying jobs of the future while continuing to expand Arizona’s economic opportunities,” said Sinema.

“As we continue to rebuild our state’s economy, these grants bring key investments that will support the growth of a strong Arizona workforce and get Arizonans the skills for jobs in emerging industries,” said Kelly.

The Department of Labor’s H-1B One Workforce Grant Program is designed to prepare the workforce for jobs within cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and transportation sectors. The grants help build innovative training models that can be replicated by the broader workforce. By forging public-private partnerships—H-1B One Workforce Partnerships—applicants bring together employers, education and training, the workforce system, and state and local governments to work collaboratively to offer education and job training solutions to grow the economy and get Americans back to work.

Grant recipients include institutions of higher education, entities involved in administering the workforce investment system established under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, non-profit organizations and economic development organizations. Eligible participants served through this grant program must be at least 17 years old, and not enrolled currently in secondary school within a local educational agency. Among the individuals eligible to receive training, veterans, military spouses, and transitioning service members receive Priority of Service.
