ICYMI: In Tucson, Kelly Visits Rincon High School to Highlight How Republican SNAP Cuts Would Harm Arizona Kids and Families

In case you missed it, Arizona Senator and Navy combat veteran Mark Kelly visited Rincon High School in Tucson yesterday to help distribute lunch to students and highlight how Trump and Republican-led efforts to slash food assistance programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) would harm Arizona kids and families—all to give tax breaks to billionaires.

The House of Representatives recently approved nearly $300 billion in SNAP cuts over the next 10 years. More than 42 million Americans rely on SNAP, including nearly one million Arizonans. In Tucson Unified School District, over 40,000 students at 87 schools receive free breakfast and lunch. Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP would undermine this system, making it harder for schools to serve free meals and leaving more children and families at risk of hunger.

While in Tucson, Kelly also visited ‘Barrio Bread,’ a bakery where he met with the owner and staff to hear about their work and how rising costs and uncertainty around Trump’s proposed tariffs are affecting their operations. Kelly emphasized his continued support for small businesses by expanding access to capital and advocating for federal programs that help the heart of Arizona’s economy.
