ICYMI: In Phoenix, Kelly Visits Nursing Facility to Hear from Patients, Providers About Medicaid Cuts
While in Phoenix, Kelly also attended a constituent services event and toured local small businesses with Tempe Mayor Corey Woods
In case you missed it, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly visited the North Mountain Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Phoenix, a skilled nursing facility that provides in-house therapy along with short and long-term rehabilitation services. There, Kelly heard from staff and patients about how the Trump and Republican-led efforts to cut Medicaid, known as AHCCCS in Arizona, would impact them.
North Mountain leadership raised concerns about how downstream effects from Medicaid-induced funding cuts to hospitals could strain their care for low-income seniors, along with new administrative barriers and limits on provider payments that could further limit access to care. They also highlighted the challenges posed by recent disruptions in non-emergency medical transportation, a Medicaid-covered service on which many of their residents rely to access external appointments.

After this visit, Kelly stopped by a Senior Services Mobile Office Hours event at the Devonshire Senior Center that his office hosted in partnership with the offices of Senator Ruben Gallego, Governor Katie Hobbs, and aging-related service providers. The event connected older adults with in-person assistance for Social Security, Medicare, and other federal and state benefits.

To wrap up the day, Kelly joined Tempe Mayor Corey Woods on a tour of local small businesses. Some of the businesses they visited included Plant Mill, a women-owned creative co-op and plant shop, and the Hundred Mile Brewing Company, also a women-owned brewery and restaurant. During this tour, Kelly talked to business owners and employees and learned about their successes, challenges, and how rising costs and the uncertainty around Trump’s tariffs are impacting their operations. Kelly emphasized his support for small businesses by working to expand access to capital and pushing for federal programs that help Arizona’s small businesses start, grow, and thrive.

At each stop in Phoenix, Kelly reaffirmed his commitment to continue fighting back in Washington to protect health care access for Arizonans, supporting small businesses, and pushing back against harmful policies that raise costs for working families.
