Kelly’s Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act Signed into Law

Legislation will permanently place fentanyl-related substances into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act

This week, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly’s Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act was signed into law. The bipartisan legislation permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. The bill gives law enforcement the tools they need to keep extremely lethal and dangerous drugs off our streets and ensure scientists can research and better understand these substances.

“This is a major victory for Arizona and a critical step forward in our fight against fentanyl,” said Kelly. “It took Republicans and Democrats coming together to get this done, and now we’re giving law enforcement the permanent tools they need to go after traffickers while supporting essential research. This long-overdue change will help protect our communities and save lives.”

Kelly introduced this bill in February alongside Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Chuck Grassley (R-IA).
