ICYMI: Kelly Won’t Back Down as Hegseth Censures and Threatens Demotion

“We have a right in our country to speak out about the government, to say things about the president. They can’t take that away from us.”

In case you missed it, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly went on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, NPR’s Morning Edition, ABC’s Good Morning America, and MS NOW’s The Rachel Maddow Show to call out Pete Hegseth’s censure and threats to demote him—making clear he won’t back down. Kelly warned that these actions are meant to chill the speech of service members, veterans, and every American, and infringe on Americans’ right to speak out about their government.

Sen. Kelly speaks to Jon Stewart on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: Sen. Mark Kelly – “I’m Not Backing Down”

“We have a right in our country to speak out about the government, to say things about the president. They can’t take that away from us.”

NPR’s Morning Edition: Sen. Mark Kelly calls Hegseth’s demotion threat the ‘height of hypocrisy’

“KELLY: It sends a chilling effect to service members – retired service members especially across the country, but anybody who served in the military and any U.S. citizen – that if you speak out against this president, they’re going to come after you.”

Good Morning America: ‘Absolutely not’: Mark Kelly says he wouldn’t change troop message or ‘back down’ after censure

“Let me make this perfectly clear, though, Gabby and I are not people that back down,” Kelly said on Tuesday during an appearance with his wife, former Rep. Gabby Giffords, on “Good Morning America.” “From anything, from any kind of fight.”

The Rachel Maddow Show: ‘I’m never going to back down’: Mark Kelly pushes back against Hegseth’s intensifying crusade

“I’m surprised that they’re continuing down this path and taking these steps to try to silence me, silence other members of Congress, silence retired members of the military, former service members, really silence the American people. I mean, this isn’t only about me; this is about all of us.”
